FAQ
Is
Belmont a Church of Christ, as it reads on the stone work
above the chapel?
Belmont Church was birthed some 95 years ago as Belmont Avenue
Church of Christ. Our historic roots lie with the Church of
Christ. In the 1970's, when Belmont embraced the Spiritual
Renewal that swept across denominational lines, we drop our
affiliation with any denomination and changed our name to
Belmont Church.
What
does it mean to be nondenominational?
Belmont Church believes strongly in unity among Christian
churches, Christian leadership, and Christian believers. In
order to open the doors and tear down the walls, we have chosen
to be known by one
name-Christian. The leadership of Belmont
walks in unity with Christian leadership throughout this city
and country, and our membership is open to all Christian denominations.
Is
your pastor from a Church of Christ background?
You mean our pastors? No. Actually the team of pastors are
from a diverse cross-section of denominations. We have pastors
with Presbyterian, Lutheran, Baptist, Assembly of God, Episcopalian,
Catholic, and Charismatic backgrounds. And, yes, two among this team of pastors
are from a Church of Christ background.
Why
does Belmont have such a large staff?
To service the ministry. Belmont is more than the four walls,
it is our heart to reach out into the neighborhoods and nations
with the gospel. In order to do that we have to provide the
necessary tools and the means to educate and mentor our members
in an environment that is conducive for all generations. Whether
it is Active Seniors for Christ, Community Life Groups, College and Young
Adults, Women's and Men's, Youth, Children, Nursery, World
and Local Outreach; each of these ministries require a dedicated
support staff in order to effectively meet the call before
us.
How
many members does Belmont have?
We have approximately 2,000 people who attend over the course
of a weekend.
How
can I learn more about Belmont Church when I visit one of
your services?
If you would like to know more about Belmont we highly encourage you to stop by and have a cup of coffee with us after the service in the Hospitality Room. You can also ask any of our Lobby Hosts any questions you may have, and of course our Welcome Center is always staffed and ready to serve.
How do you become a member of Belmont Church?
The third Sunday of each month @ 1pm in Asaph’s Chamber we offer Belmont 101, which is our introduction to Belmont membership. At Belmont 101 you will find out about our history, vision statement, and our hope for you as a Belmont member. Belmont 101 is the place where you can ask all the hard questions you want. There is also a free lunch, and you can’t go wrong with a free lunch! To register for Belmont 101 please call 256-2124 ext. 401.
How
do I know when classes are cancelled because of weather?
If Metro/Davidson County Schools are out or are dismissed
early, classes will not meet.
Where
are the restrooms?
Restrooms are located on the lower level at the base of the
stairs. Another set is in the annex, a hallway that extends
perpendicular to the sanctuary. There are also restrooms on
the third floor, near the children's classrooms.
Equipping

you have Sunday School and adult classes?
Yes and no. We have Sunday School for

Worship & Arts
What’s the process for being on a worship team?
Since we have so many musicians in our community, we get asked this question a lot. Those who will serve on worship teams at Belmont’s regular assemblies need to be members of Belmont Church, have strong sight reading skills and be able to find their part by ear. Usually the worship team can only run each song once in a short rehearsal the day of the worship service, so these musical skills are essential. If this sounds like you here’s what to do.
Step 1: Pray and ask if this is something the Lord is calling you to. Then fill out an orange musician’s info form which you can find here on-line, or in the Asaph’s Chamber building which houses the Worship and Arts Department. You can either mail this form back to the church or leave it with the front desk, marked for Worship and Arts. By doing this we also get you into the Worship and Arts data base and you will be kept up to date about department happenings.
Step 2: Make yourself known to the staff and attend one of our various Artists' Gatherings. Our worship leaders generally call people they either already know or have met and talked to when choosing people for their teams. So let us get you to know you. You should not feel at all shy about being proactive here. Belmont is a large community and we want to meet you!
Step 3: Keep an open mind and don’t get discouraged. Honestly, it can take a while to get worked into the list of people who are being called for worship teams. Of interest; in 1 Chronicles Chapter 25 you will find the ‘Number And Services of Musicians’, you could say, those who were available to play in King David’s worship team. There were 288 musicians deemed skillful, and ‘they cast lots for their duties, all alike, the small as well as the great, the teacher as well as the pupil.’ So, stay open to serving in other ways until you get called to fill an opening in the rotation. We have many other opportunities for you to use your gifts other than the worship platform in the main assemblies. There is Isaiah 58 ~ The Nashville House of Prayer ~ and the Children’s Ministry is always looking for individuals and teams to lead our children in worship.
Can I do a ‘special’ presentation in the worship service? (Example: you’ve written a song, choreographed a dance, or designed a visual arts piece…)
If you have a special artistic presentation you would like to bring for consideration please contact The Worship Art's Pastor. Our Worship Arts Pastor oversees all special presentations in our assemblies.
What if I have an overall idea or vision I want to tell someone?
Again, the Worship Arts Pastor is your man. Give him a call or send an e-mail with your idea or submission.
Can I get the lyrics and/or charts to the songs we sing in the assemblies?
Unfortunately our licensing does not allow us to share those with the public. However, we are happy to help you find a published version by sharing information on the songs. Please call the Worship Arts Administrator at extension 249 to help you out.
I’m a cell worship leader and I need some pointers. Can someone work with me?
Absolutely! We are here to serve you. We have books with song lists, chord charts for leaders and songs with only lyrics for singers. We also have other programming helps for worship leaders who lead for our small group ministries. Call the Worship Arts Administrator at extension 249 and he will help you get started.
I would like to book one of the Belmont Worship Leaders for an event. How do I go about this?
If you know them, feel free to contact them directly. If you need some recommendations, please call the Worship Arts Pastor or Administrator and they will be glad to help you out.
Belmont’s worship style is unique. Can you give me some information on the biblical foundations for this at Belmont? Including prophetic ministry, singing in the Spirit, Songs of the Lord, etc…
You can call or e-mail the Worship Arts Pastor with specific questions. We also hope to have some position papers online that detail a Scriptural basis for worship, along with some reference guides to help you explore these topics yourself. So, please check back.
How can I volunteer in the media area of the worship services?
We are always excited to hear from qualified people with servant’s hearts to run our sound / lights / video, and our Media Shout presentations. Contact us if you’re interested in sound/ lighting/ video at mediavolunteers@belmont.org or 256-2124 ext. 227. To volunteer for our rotating team of Media Shout operators, please contact Worship and Arts.
Is the music recorded each weekend? How do I get a copy?
Our weekly worship is recorded each weekend and is available at the resource desk in the church lobby after the service. CD’s are a suggested $4 donation and are available as supplies last.
Are my children welcome to stay with me in the worship center for the whole service?
Our exuberant worship style actually lends itself well to children’s participation. Children are certainly welcome and encouraged to attend. We advise parents however to remain aware of your children and insure that their behavior does not distract others. Our Children’s Ministries also love visitors and do wonderful jobs teaching our little ones each week. We have pre-school worship for your 3 – 5 year olds during both assemblies on Sunday mornings. We also have Children’s Worship ages 6 – 12 each Sunday during our 11am assembly. You are encouraged to bring your child to their age level class for a trial run. Click here for information on Children's classes.
